Pens Win, Move in on Fourth Seed

At times it wasn't pretty for the Penguins last night but they got the job done, on the road against a legitimate contender to represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup finals. Wins don't have to be pretty during this time of year, they just need to happen.

The Pens took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Sidney Crosby and Paul Martin. The Bruins would score a late first period goal and an early second period goal to tie the game at two.

The Pens would then score two consecutive power play goals to take a 4-2 lead. James Neal scored his 40th during a five on three power play and Sidney Crosby added his second of the game just 48 seconds later.

Arron Asham put the Pens up by three in the first part of the third period. The Bruins would pull with in two goals with just under 12 minutes to play but the Pens would hold on to their two goal lead.

It was quite evident that the Pens came out in this game looking to tighten up defensively, but at times there were some major breakdowns that led to quality chances for the Bruins. Even with the breakdowns, the Pens did seem to tweak at least one aspect of their game. Coach Bylsma put Kris Letang on the point for the power play and it paid off. The Pens scored two consecutive goals on the power play only 48 seconds apart and on the second one Letang delivered a seeing eye pass through traffic right to the tape of Sidney Crosby.

When it was all said and done the Pens earned two points on the road and kept their distance over the Flyers in the standings.

Flyers-Rangers

The Flyers helped the Penguins last night, by losing to the Rangers 5-3. With the Penguins win they have a three point lead over the Flyers and can clinch the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference with a win in any fashion Thursday night agains the New York Rangers or a Flyers loss in regulation Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Flyers Continue to Cry
Flyers assistant coach Craig Berube voiced his displeasure with the Penguins stars whom everyone west of central PA think are goons.

“The bottom line is that the game was over and they put their five toughest guys on the ice,” Berube said on CSN Philly’s Daily News Live.

Berube went in to call Sid and Geno "the two dirtiest players in the game."

“They slash, they punch guys in the face, they do all these little things,” said Berube. “I got no problem with what Schenn does, and if somebody runs [Crosby] over, that’s great, they should run him over. This guy gets away with too much in my opinion, whines to the refs all day and all night, it’s a joke.”

So to sum up what is happening between the two teams is as follows. The Flyers complain when Crosby whines and plays like a girl. Sid gets an edge in his game and then they cry in the same way they claim Sid does. Idiots. All of them.

But why are they doing this now, before the series? Are they trying to buy calls already? If so it's pretty pathetic and could be a distraction.
