Here we are with two games left it the regular season and in a week or less a war will break out between two hated hockey games and there won't be anything pretty taken from it. Baring a collapse by the Flyers combined with the Devils winning both of their games, the Pens will meet the Flyers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Quite frankly some of us fans aren't ready, aren't prepared and we've gotten a bit soft.
It started when Sid got crosschecked by Schenn after the whistle, which caused some fans to cry foul. Yeah, it was a penalty that wasn't assed, and it was a liberty that Crosby's teammates cannot be allowed to take. However, Sid deserved it and that is hockey, especially between two heated opponents.
Sid is a hockey player, and at times he isn't a nice hockey player, and honestly, you want your star to play with that edge. In return he is going to take late shots, he's going to catch backlash, but who cares because none of it comes from a caliber of a player that Sid is.
Now throw in Milbury's comments and you would think that we want everyone to grovel at Sid's feet and say nothing bad. Breaking News, but it's not going to happen, and it never has. Milbury may have gone a bit overboard making fun of Sid's concussions, but he just added major drama to the entire series, and NBC possibly will see a ratings increase because of it.
In about a week we are going to be thrown into the caldron of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and there will be nothing nice about the exchanges between the Pens and Flyers camp. We've been here before and we've seen all of this before. Feelings are going to get hurt, but we can't act like children during recess. We need to just let that healthy hatred build within and use it pull for this team, instead of sitting in the stands checking our blackberries. We need the CONSOL Energy Center to be as loud as the Igloo was, God rest it's soul.
