Eastern Conference Finals Game 1

Yeah I know this is a blog focusing mainly on the Pittsburgh Penguins, but hockey season does not stop once the Pens are eliminated from Stanley Cup contention.

Tbe Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning squared off for game one of the Eastern Conference Finals in Boston. This is a very interesting series, one of which may go the distance because the 1-3-1 deployed by the Bolts may stymie the Bruins if the Bolts manage to get a lead.

Sean Bergenheim opened the scoring at 11:15 of the 1st Period on a snap shot that beat Tim Thomas to put the Bolts up 1-0 with assists going to Dominic Moore and Victor Hedman. Tampa was not done and Brett Clark put home a back hand, unassisted just 19 seconds later to give the Bolts a 2-0 lead. Then 1:06 later at 12:40 in the period Teddy Purcell buried a puck off of a turnover by Tomas Kaberle to give the Bolts a 3-0 lead. Tyler Seguin potted his first career NHL Playoff goal at 15:59 with assists going to Michael Ryder and Rich Peverly to put the Bruins within two. The score after one period remained in favor of the Bolts 3-1 and no goals were scored in the second period.

The game remained tight until 13:37 when Marc-Andre Bergeron netted his second goal of the playoffs from Brett Clark and Martin St. Louis to extend the lead of the Bolts to 4-1. Simon Gagne added an empty netter at 17:29 to seal the deal for the Bolts. The scoring was capped off by Johnny Boychuck's 3rd goal of the postseason at 18:59. The Bolts take game one in Bean-Town with Dwane Roloson stopping 31 of 33 shots.  Game two is Tuesday night in Boston.

Even given the result of game 1, The Pond's pick to win the series is Boston in 6 Games. Boston seemed a bit disorganized and we as Pens fans know what that brings against the 1-3-1 of the Bolts.  Boston just has to regroup and take Game 2.  Highlights below.
