GameDay Game #7: Penguins at Jets

No we didn't just travel back to the mid-90s. It is still the year 2011 and the Pittsburgh Penguins are in Winnipeg to take on the Jets tonight. The Penguins haven't played in Winnipeg since February 16, 1996 when Jaromir Jagr scored the only goal of game, and Tom Barrasso stopped all 32 shots. The scene in Winnipeg has been great, and the Pens face a very loud crowd.

POFA's Notes

The Jets have yet to win a game and have been outscored 13-5 by their opponents. The Penguins will be without Tyler Kennedy, who is suffering from concussion-like symptoms. Evgeni Malkin, Brooks Orpik and Sidney Crosby did not make the trip.

The Pens are dealing with injuries, and playing on the road against a newly relocated franchise in a hockey crazy city is sort of a perfect storm to things to go wrong.

The Penguins are 11-1 against the Jets (Thrashers) in the past three seasons, including a sweep of last year's regular season meetings.

The Penguins have a 13-9-1 all-time record in Winnipeg

Milestone Watch: Jordan Staal has 97 career goals. Richard Park has 96 career goals.

Last Game against the Thrashers Jets: The Penguins defeated the Thrashers 5-2 in the franchise's last game in Atlanta. Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis, Mike Rupp, Mark Letestu and Mike Comrie scored for the Penguins. Brent Johnson recorded the win between the pipes.
